The Blues: Personal Fashion

Images by Bennet Cobliner

Top: Vintage Variety; Pants: Zara; Necklace / Clutch: TopShop; Shoes: Office

As I said in my last personal fashion post, the trip to that vintage store in NJ proved to be delightfully fruitful. This blue sequence top is also one of my finds from the store. Doesn't it just remind you of Madonna from the 80’s? Paired it with pants I got from Zara with suspenders. Although I’m not a fan of the fit, but I realized that only after I saw the pics. Hehe.. My mirror at home is like one of those magic mirrors. Makes me look taller and thinner than I actually am. Not my fault.

Had a relaxed weekend, with a little bit of partying and a lot of self-reflecting. Some conclusions in life are: You are your best friend. Family is the only unconditional love you shall ever have. And that I AM THE KING OF THE WORLD!!  Hehe…

Please oh please give me some juice about your lives!!! I am itching for some gossip!!

Samantha Rose: Street Fashion

Images by Shraddha Borawake

Dress/ Bow: Made it herself; Belt: Thrifted; Bag: Betsey Johnson; Glasses: Puerto Rico; Necklace: Street booth in NYC; Boots: T.J. Maxx

I normally find a color that I obsess over for a certain period of time and sometimes these periods can be extendeddddd. Hence I feel like “GOLD” as a color was invented/ discovered/ was brought into existence just for me.  Turns out, its not really true L. Apparently Gold looks great on almost anyone and Samantha is rocking that Betsey Johnson Gold bag. I also love Betsey Johnson as a personality. She is so out there and a whole class of creative apart. Loved that she showed up on Project Runway in a leopard print dress and that hot hairdo of hers. She’s just super hot!!

Isn’t it freaking cool that Samantha made this outfit herself and that bow for her head? FYI, you can find her on Etsy as “Bows by designer Samantha Rose”. And that shot with the sunglasses is incredible IMO.

Envy: Street Fashion

Images by Shraddha Borawake

Having a half-shaven patch on head seems to be a trend of sorts this summer. Love the look on Donna. It’s great that she went not too punk with her entire outfit.  I think that if she would have gone total punk rock with tons of leather and studs, it wouldn’t have looked as good. I like the idea of restrained rebellion. Love the glasses and the gold chain detail on her neckline and pockets.

Donna is a designer for Envy.  And going by the Envy clothes her 2 other friends were sporting, she has to be pretty darn good at what she does.

Getting Wiggy with It: Personal Fashion

Images by Anjali Bhargava

Dress: 1970’s Vintage from Vintage Variety; Shoes: Ashish for Topshop; Bangles: Random

My fetish for BIG hair was finally fulfilled by a super cute and cheap solution: A Wig!! I borrowed it from one of roommates and I love it!!! I do wish it were a brunette instead of a blonde though. Now here is a thought [Thought No. 1], if I don’t want to do crazy chemical things to my hair and would like the option to keep my current hair the way it is, is it ok for me to actually wear a wig on a day-to-day basis? I mean if I got a good one, not too fake, can I actually wear it in real life, say for dinner or to the movies? Just a thought. Don't laugh!!

I am proud to announce that if I don’t include my shoes, my today’s outfit costs less than $40 including accessories. Pls don’t ask me to include the shoes. Really. It’s embarrassing.

Found this incredible 1970’s dress at a vintage store in New Jersey [ahh...stop screaming all you Manhattanites..yes yes, I shopped in New Jersey, but the deal was just too freaking good] when I went there a couple of weekends ago to go to the beach. I almost raided the entire store and bought as much stuff as I could carry single handedly back to New York. COZ IT WAS SOO CHEAP!! So here is another thought [Thought No.2], do you think that someone somewhere in the 1970’s had the same exact taste in clothing, colors and style as me and maybe this was her favorite dress and that maybe even she wore / styled this outfit just like I have right now? She could be like my twin from another generation, right? Sooo cool !! My brains sometime have crazy ideas. Not always. Just sometimes. :)

XOXO

PS: This is one of my favorite styled outfits on myself so far. It's the hair, I know. But I feel the big hair, vintage, leopard print, high high wedges are all my current fav style statements. So all in one is a killer combo. Ok I'm done now. You can go back to whatever you were doing before this. :)

Blue Blue, Chaddi Flew: Street Fashion

Images by Shraddha Borawake

Shorts: Rachel Comey; Top: Calvin Klein [cropped by self]; Bag: Mulberry; Glasses: Ralph Lauren; Ring: Solange Azagury Partridge; Shoes: From Greece

Super cute Kat’s shorts just stole my heart. Loving the layers on them and the color. Notice the detail on her ring that spells her name and the “K” tattoo? Tiny details, Big difference!! I was going rather shameless in almost peeping into her tank too much to find out what her back tattoo looked like when Shraddha gave me that “BEHAVE WOMAN” look… she does that a lot coz I do this a lot..hehe…
Thanks Kate for being such a doll!! xoxo

Of beards and Mustaches: Street Fashion

Images by Prutha Raithatha

Shoes: Converse; Everything else: Thrifted

There is a reason why I love going to art events. You find the quirkiest people there. Bumped into Sean at the DUMBO arts festival a couple of weeks ago and it totally made my evening. Love love love his look from head to toe. The hair, the hook moustache, the pirate beard and that fabulous shield tattoo!!  Ok so art is art and even though I don’t have any tattoos yet, I love the art of ink!! Someday when I find "MY" tattoo, it shall happen!!  Until then I shall live vicariously through the tats of people like Sean.

Sean is a film editor and I love his sense of style!!

Happy Independence Day to India and Pakistan: Personal Fashion

Images by Bennet Cobliner

Silk Top: Zara; Lace Shorts: Urban Outfitters; Shoes/ Ring: Random from Bombay; Necklace: Club Monaco; Bangle: NYC Street

So August 15th is India’s Independence day and this year I celebrated it in a much more meaningful way than I ever have throughout my life. Nothing too spectacular, but I ended up going to an event that was meant to celebrate 2 Independence Days together. The point was we start drinking at around 11pm on August 14th [which is Pakistan’s Independence Day] and keep drinking past midnight and into August 15th [which is India’s Independence Day]. Don’t worry; besides drinking we saw some amazing music performances, some poetry, some rapping and some insane comedy by fellow south Asians.

Ofcourse it was a fun event. But what hit me after I got out of the event and on my way home was that this was such a brilliant idea. And that outside of our motherlands Pakistanis and Indians coexist as not just normal people of the world but even as really close friends. Maybe it is familiarity cause we still look alike and in a 3rd world, which is a mix of various other colors, cultures and nationalities. Maybe our brownness is a sort of a common hence bonding factor. But I just don’t get why we can’t get along in our own nations across that stupid imaginary line called “The Border”.

Really badly wishing both our countries peace and friendship.

PS: Totally forgot about the outfit!! Hehehe.. So how about you tell me what you think of it this time instead of me writing about it? As you can see I did chores this weekend like laundry and stuff. So wasn’t too exciting a weekend except for this Independence Day event I went to. How was everyone else’s weekend?

Pet Shoes: Street fashion

Images by Prutha Raithatha

Dress: Phillip Lim; Bag: Marc Jacobs; Shoes: Random from Japan; Necklace: Tiffany & Co.

In all seriousness I love her sandals. For a pair of comfy flats, they are insanely cool. Wish it was brand I could order online from but apparently this girl bought them from some random place in Japan. And I love her hair cut and color. I guess being a makeup artist she can’t go wrong with colors.

Oh and in the last picture Mr. Security Guard of the neighboring building really wanted to be a part of the picture. So we let him J
